Distance Learning And The Martial Arts

One of the many questions that I get asked is how is the best way to learn a specific martial art it the teacher for the style that I am interested in is not in my area.
Well the answer is you must look for a martial arts teacher or association for the style that you you are interested in that offers online training or training via video whether it is video files, video links, or DVD’s.

The first thing that you look at are what are your goals in the martial arts. Are you wanting to learn self defense, or a sport / tournament art. Are you wanting an old traditional style or a modern fighting system.

Two of the most popular self defense systems are Kempo or Kenpo Karate. That translates from Japanese into Fist Law, so that gives you an idea its serious self defense.

The other is the style of Bruce Lee Jeet Kune Do. It translates into way of the intercepting fist. So instead of the head on approach of Kenpo it is an energy redirection art form that relies on the interception and redirection of movements from the bad guy.

The two associations for these arts are the World Kenpo Association headed by Carter Hargrave. The other association for JKD is the World Jeet Kune Do Federation which is also headed by Carter Hargrave.

Both of these associations offer state of the art distance learning programs that they have pioneered for each style. They are in a class all their own.
