The Media and various anti gun groups keep espousing that “Assault Weapons” should be banned from ownership by the general public. First the general public does not own “Assault Weapons” as the ownership of actual “Assault Weapons” was regulated in 1932, in that the ownership of fully automatic military weapons is reguylated by the Department of the Treasury. To own a military weapon you must go through and FBI background check, be fingerprinted by the local police, then if you are free from a criminal record you have to get the police chief or the district attorney to sign a federal form that you can own one. If you can convince the police chief, then you get to pay the government two hundred dollars for a tax stamp to now own a class 3 weapon. And the military style weapon costs a minimum of two thousand to twenty thousand dollars if you can find a specialized dealer in your state of residence. So ownership of true “Assault Weapons” is definitely not for the common man or woman, its for the rich or the elite in our society,

The term as it is used by anti gun / anti constitution groups is meant to confuse the general public into thinking that ownership of military style weapons is common, when in fact it is super rare. Whats more none of these weapons has ever been reported as used in a crime,  as criminals dont buy guns.

So next time you hear a group or person barking about assault weapons and how no one needs access to them and that they should be regulated, just smile and know that they are ignorant, and know nothing about what they think they are talking about. “Assault Weapons” have been regulated and have never killed anyone as long as they have been available and regulated since 1932.
